Right of Christian Initiation for Adults
CATHOLIC ADULT INSTRUCTION CLASS
(RCIA – RIGHT OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process through which interested adults and older children are gradually introduced to the Catholic faith and way of life.
We are all aware of children being received into the church through baptism, attending catechism classes, first Holy Communion and confirmation. But what of adults who wish to join the Catholic Church?
Well to facilitate the acceptance of adults into the Catholic Church, there is the institution of The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or RCIA process. RCIA is a spiritual journey that usually takes place over 20 to 30 weeks and embraces an enquiry period, dealing with the fundamentals of Catholicism, Catholic social justice and moral theology, the Catholic view of God, Jesus, sin and redemption, the spiritual aspects of living life with Christ – highlighted during the Lenten Period and Easter.
The programme’s high point is at Mass on Holy Saturday when candidates are received into the Church and receive Holy Communion, but the process carries on with their living with Christ as new members of the church.
Apart from Candidates, active participation from members of the church community is not only welcome, but encouraged, as this is both rewarding for the participant and enriching for all who take part.
We invite any adult who wishes to deepen their knowledge and appreciation of our Catholic Faith, with, perhaps, a view to joining our community or who wishes to be confirmed to please contact Fr Barry
We also ask anyone interested in participating in any way in the RCIA programme to please contact Fr Barry.
